The CCSA (China Communications Standards Administration) is currently assessing and formulating an indigenous mobile TV standard, code-named TD-MBMS (TD-SCDMA Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service), Chinese-language China Business News reported. Should no major objections arise, the MII (Ministry of Information Industry) is expected to announce TD-MBMS as a common national standard soon.
Starting in October 2007, all TD-SCDMA terminals are required to support the TD-MBMS standard. All TD-SCDMA terminals offered by equipment vendors with network access licenses are therefore compatible with the standard, according to the same resource.
